Are you feeling overwhelmed with all the things you need to do to grow your business? In today's episode of the Financial and Lifestyle Freedom Podcast, I'm going to show you how to get real results without feeling so overwhelmed.

Hey there my name is Annette Ferguson. I am CEO of Annette and Co, a UK based accounting firm. I am a chartered accountant certified Profit First professional and small business growth strategist and I ultimately help small business owners take home more money from their business for them and their families to enjoy.

And in today's episode, we are speaking about conquering overwhelm to get real results. So let's dive in.

Why is it not good to do everything all at once?

First of all, stop trying to do everything at once. I know it's so tempting. As a small business owner, it can be so easy to feel overwhelmed as you navigate the constant stream of tasks and decisions coming your way. To make progress and achieve real results, it's important to focus your efforts on one key project at a time.

Stop getting bogged down in the countless to do's that arise each day and consider how best to channel your energy for maximum impact. By the way, this is a message I'm also always sending myself. Defining clear goals surrounding a single intention cannot only help you break down daunting tasks into manageable chunks, but also ensure success according to the specific intentions of your mission.

Prioritizing is key. Take an essential audit on everything you need to get done, map out achievable deadlines, and revise as you need so that you can rise above the chaos and conquer the overwhelm with clarity.

What are the benefits of setting realistic goals and breaking them into specific time lines?

And number two, set realistic goals and timelines. One key to balancing and prioritizing is to set realistic goals and timelines. While it can be tempting to want to try and do everything as quickly as you possibly can, you'll be doing yourself and in reality, your business a disservice, if you don't take time to realistically plan what needs to happen in order for you to gain the results you're looking for. Setting achievable goals broken down up, over specific time periods really is the only way to get real results without having that overwhelming feeling take over from you progressing.

Why is smart delegation important to prevent overwhelm?

And number three, delegate tasks wherever possible. As a small business owner, it can be hard to stay on top of and tackle all the tasks required. Unfortunately, trying to do it all and conquer overwhelm at the same time doesn't typically end up with the results you hoped for. A key is to learning when and how to delegate tasks that can either be completed by someone else, or aren't best suited for your skill set. Because being a lean mean business machine could never mean doing it all solo.

Now of course in doing that you need to evaluate your budget, review your profit plan and make sure that it works with your business's finances. But instead of struggling through tasks outside of your area of expertise or capacity, it can be a good idea to invest in smart delegation that will help you make progress efficiently because moving forward equals real progress.

How can you achieve productivity and real results?

And next, prioritize your time and your energy. Another secret to conquering this feeling and getting real results is to prioritize your time and energy. Instead of frantically trying to accomplish numerous tasks at once, take a step back and focus on the most important ones that will help you reach your goals. By ensuring your efforts are productive and results orientated, you can capitalize on the time you need to invest in your business for maximum rewards.

Why is it important to analyze both, what’s working and what’s not working?

And next, take a step back and analyze what's working and what's not. In reality. For small business owners, overwhelm can sneak up on us. And often there can be obstacles that come into our way but don't let that put you off. Put on your game face and take a step back. analyze what is working and what isn't.

Be honest with yourself. Is the course you've set providing the results you desire? If not, you can make adjustments, explore different routes that can move you closer to your goal. This can be difficult when weighing all of the options, trust me I know, but keep pressing forward. Identify opportunities where progress has been made,  actively cultivate those successes and use them as benchmarks moving forward.

Through dedication, discipline and diligent analysis, you'll find that you're able to conquer the overwhelm. So take a pause, place your laser focus on to identifying successes, no matter how small they may be, and then you'll be ready to get some great results.

How does rewarding yourself sustain motivation and enthusiasm for your work?

And of course, don't forget to celebrate your successes. It's easy to get caught up in the highly demanding everyday race for deadlines and tasks. Although important, don't forget to take a step back and celebrate your successes once in a while.  A reward and recognition system doesn't have to be complicated. Acknowledge yourself for even small accomplishments. It's  proven that taking some time for yourself helps reignite passion and enthusiasm for your work and helps you remain motivated on days when things feel like an uphill battle. When it comes to fighting overwhelm and getting real results, celebrations are a superpower.

Why is there a need for continuous learning when running a business?

And finally, keep learning there's always something new to learn about running a business. And of course, that in itself can feel overwhelming, but it is important to understand and delve into. There is no definitive answer when it comes to running a business and honing your skills. So you should regularly seek out new insights, experiments and tactics in order to stay ahead of the curve. Some good ways to keep on top of developments include attending events, joining support groups, and connecting with like minded people.

Taking the time to invest in yourself will ultimately result in real progress for your business, guaranteed. As a small business owner, it is so easy to feel overwhelmed. I've been there a million times before and it can feel like you're just not getting anywhere. But if you take the time to focus on what's important and break down your goals into manageable pieces, you can conquer that overwhelm and get real results.
