Hello and welcome to the Financial and Lifestyle Freedom Podcast. Today we are speaking about why there is money in knowing your ideal client. So let's dive in

Hey everyone, my name is Annette Ferguson, I am CEO of Annette and Co, UK based accounting firm. I'm a chartered accountant, certified Profit  First professional, and small business growth strategist.

Today I want to speak about something that's really important for small business owners. And that is knowing and understanding your ideal client. Yes, of course, you might be in a business where you feel like you could serve anybody that came along. But it can often be a mistake trying to actually appeal to everyone.

So as you'll see in a minute, marketing to everyone might not be the best strategy, because you see, without understanding your ideal client, it can be difficult to create effective marketing strategies, build a strong brand and ultimately increase your profitability.

Who is an ideal client?

So when we say ideal client, what do we actually mean? Well, an ideal client is a representation of the type of person or company that you want to serve with your products, programs, services or offerings. This means understanding their demographic information, their pain points and challenges and their goals and aspirations.

By identifying your ideal client, you can create targeted marketing that is tailored to your products and services to their needs, and thereby building a loyal customer or client base. So knowing your ideal client is important for several reasons.

Why is it important to have targeted marketing?

Firstly, targeted marketing. When you know your ideal client, you can create targeted marketing campaigns that speak directly to their pain points, challenges and goals. This means using language, imagery and messaging that resonates with them, which increases your chances of a conversation and a conversion. And it's also important because it helps give you better product and service development.

When you understand your ideal client, you can tailor your products and services to meet their specific needs and preferences. This means you can create solutions that are much more likely to solve their problems and meet their expectations, which of course means they're much more likely to buy and give your business money.

How do you build a loyal customer or client base and how do you go about identifying your ideal client?

And another reason why it's important to know your ideal client is in order to build a loyal customer or client base. When you serve your ideal client, you're more likely to build a loyal base. This is because you're providing them with the solution that meets their needs, which increases the chances that they'll become repeat customers or clients and refer others to your business.

How do you go about identifying your ideal client?

1. You need to identify demographic information.

Start by identifying the demographics. This includes age, gender, income level, education level, occupation, and geographical location. This information can be gathered from market research, current customer, client surveys, and also your website analytics.

2. Identify pain points and challenges.

Next, you need to identify the pain points and challenges that your ideal client faces. This means understanding their frustrations, their fears and obstacles that prevent them from achieving their goals. This information can be gathered from customer feedback, market research and industry reports.

3. Identify the goals and aspirations of your ideal clients.

This means understanding what they want to achieve, what motivates them and what they aspire to become. And this can be gathered again from customer feedback, market research or a social media engagement.

Now, this is often why many business owners choose their ideal client as somebody who is one or two steps behind them. Because in all honesty that makes all of this work significantly easier because you just need to think back to how you were in the position before you solve the problem for yourself that you're about to solve for your ideal customer and client.

What are the six ways that you can connect with your ideal clients?

1. We need to use language that resonates with your ideal client.

Once you've identified them using language that resonates with them in your marketing materials and communications can help you with connection. This means using words and phrases and messaging that speaks to their pain points, challenges, goals and aspirations. This helps build trust and credibility with your ideal client, they feel like you understand them.

2. Create targeted marketing campaigns, creating target marketing campaigns that make sure that this speaks to your ideal client.

This means using messaging, imagery and channels that they like to engage in most, and this can help increase the chances of conversions and building a loyal customer base.

3. Tailor your products, services, programs and offerings to meet the specific needs and preferences of your ideal client.

So understanding what they need and creating solutions to meet that need. This, of course, builds loyalty and increases the chances of repeat business.

4. Connecting on social media.

Connecting with your ideal client on social media by engaging them, responding to their comments and messages and sharing content that speaks to their interests and needs. This can help build the relationship and increase the chances of them being a loyal customer.

5. Offer personalized customer service that goes above and beyond expectations.

This means responding to inquiries and concerns in a timely and respectful manner and providing them with solutions that meet their specific needs. This again, helps build loyalty and increase the chances of repeat business.

6. Conduct surveys and gather feedback.

It's important to do this on a regular basis. This means asking for opinions and suggestions on your products and services and using the feedback to improve your offerings. This again helps build customer loyalty and increases the chances of repeat business.
