It was 3am on a January morning in 2015. I was feeding my six-week-old son, exhausted from running a six-figure accounting firm while taking no maternity leave. Despite having a successful-looking business, I was taking absolutely nothing home. Not one penny.
My husband's wage was supporting our entire family while my business - despite all that revenue, despite all those clients - contributed nothing to our household finances.
That night, while reading on my Kindle during another sleepless feeding session, I discovered a book that would change everything. It made me realise I'd been making a costly mistake for over five years - one that had cost me well over £50,000 in lost income and opportunity.
The Chartered Accountant Who Couldn't Pay Herself
Here's the irony: I'm a Chartered Accountant. I'd worked in corporate finance for Oil & Gas and Investment Banking, where we created detailed budgets and financial forecasts as standard practice. Yet in my own business, I was hoping for "spare" money at the end of each month instead of planning for profit.
I was looking at my business as if I was entitled to whatever was left over. And there was never anything left over because I hadn't planned for there to be.
The Birth of The Profit Plan Methodology
That 3am moment sparked the development of what I now call The Profit Plan Method - a comprehensive system specifically designed for UK businesses that goes far beyond basic cash management.
While others were implementing American systems, I created something uniquely suited to how we actually run businesses here in the UK.
